Cat litter is an absorbent material used to bury cat excrement, usually used in conjunction with a litter box. Based on physical properties, it can be divided into clumping and non-clumping types; based on raw materials, it can be divided into organic cat litter (wood chips, paper scraps, etc.) and inorganic cat litter (bentonite, zeolite, etc.). Some products add antibacterial agents, deodorizers, etc., to enhance performance. Common types include bentonite cat litter (highly absorbent), tofu cat litter (good absorbency, soluble), crystal cat litter (high absorbency, requires a double-layer litter box, and color changes indicate replacement frequency), and pine cat litter (environmentally friendly, low dust, but susceptible to moisture). When using cat litter, it is important to clean up any loose particles and dust. Silica gel cat litter is recommended to be used with a special scoop. Wood chip litter can be flushed down the toilet, but frequency should be controlled and moisture prevention is important.
Silica gel cat litter appears as white granules, with silicon dioxide (SiO₂) as its main component. It has a rich microporous structure; under a microscope, millions of nano-sized micropores can be seen inside each granule, forming a highly absorbent structure. Based on granule shape and performance, silica gel cat litter can be divided into several types. C1 type cat litter appears as translucent spherical granules with a glossy surface, absorbs quickly, and absorbs over 85% of liquid pet feces. C2 type cat litter appears as frosted glass-like white spherical granules, has good water resistance, a low breakage rate of 5-10% after absorbing pet excrement, and an absorption capacity of over 95%. C-type block cat litter appears as irregular granules, with absorption capacity comparable to C1 type, but high friction between granules prevents rolling. Water-resistant cat litter consists of white spherical granules that remain intact after absorbing excrement, with a breakage rate of less than 5%, and does not make any noise during absorption.
Silica gel cat litter is available in various granule sizes, such as 0.5-2 mm, 1-3 mm, and 1-8 mm. Different colored granules, fragrances, or antibacterial agents can be added as needed.
