Dog food is a high-end animal food positioned between human food and traditional livestock feed. It's a specialized food designed to provide dogs with basic nutrition. Its main ingredients include corn, dehydrated poultry meat, animal fat, and minerals, containing essential nutrients such as protein, fat, and carbohydrates. It also has health benefits, including preventing certain diseases. Dog food can be categorized by form (dry, extruded, semi-dry, soft/wet, wet, etc.), by processing method (extruded, steamed, etc.), and by function (puppy food, adult dog food, etc.).

The current standard is GB/T 31216-2014 Complete Pet Food - Dog Food (implemented March 8, 2015). This standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, labeling, packaging, transportation, storage, and shelf life for complete pet food (dog food). This standard applies to industrially processed complete pet food (dog food), excluding prescription dog food.
